Students began this magnet distinguishing between insects and non-insects. This allowed students to explore the characteristics that insects contain.

life of a worker bee
Students have learned the jobs of the worker bee and created a book to show what those jobs are and how long the worker bee performs each job.
busy, busy bees!

Students studied the ways that bees communicate. Students saw some of the bee dances and then were able to experience the dances together as if they were bees trying to communicate to each other.
round dance
"bees" dancing
The honey bees perform a round (circular) dance to tell that food is near the hive. They also do a dance called the wag-tail dance to show which direction the food is in and how far depending on how fast the complete the dance. Students really enjoyed this activity and got in to becoming a bee.

Last week students were able to taste test two different types of honey. By looking at the results you can tell very clearly which was the favorite. I encouraged students to try other types of honey at home if they had other types to try.
