Hurricanes Pick Up a Book Winners |
Fourth Grade--2005 |
On Friday, April
8, 2005, WES GT Fourth Graders welcomed Carolina Hurricanes' mascot Stormy,
Former Player and now Assistant Coach Jeff Daniels, Anne Clinard-Nelson,
and Doris Barksdale (Community Service) to our campus. It was not just a social visit though! Fourth graders had
participated in the Hurricanes' Pick
Up a Book and Read Contest. This contest, with schools from across the Triangle
participating, had students counting the pages they read over a six week period. After the results were
tabulated, we found out the WES
was one of four schools to win!
To celebrate, Stormy and Jeff lead students (and teachers!) in a hockey equipment
relay, discussed the
importance of reading, and presented many awards and prizes! All students enjoyed
the festivities!
Congratulations to Mrs. Kapp and Mrs. Blake's classes for winning the relay
races. Also, congratulations
to Mr. Shearer's homeroom for being one of the top four homerooms! WES also
had six of the top readers!
Thanks to the Hurricanes organization for this program and also thanks to all
of our parents for your help!
