Magnet
schools seek to meet the individual academic and artistic needs
of a child, while providing a safe environment for exploration
of their strengths, interests, and talents. Here at Wendell GT,
our Gifted and Talented curriculum
is built to develop the gifts of our students to the highest possible
level. Many areas go into this, including:
1. Academically

this program, our AG Teacher tests possible candidates. Students,
both recognized and upon reccomendations from their teachers
can AG level courses during electives, such as Chess, Scholastic
Pursuit, and others.
2. Theatre/Drama/Music- Click

Mr. Jenkins, Ms. Coats, Ms. Yeargin, and Mr. Merritt work
together to produce 2-3 live musicals and plays per year.
Students learn the basics of acting, singing, and working
behind the scenes.

3. Arts- Click

Mrs. York heads up the Art program. From weaving, to bark
paintings, to helping with scenery for the productions, Mrs.
York's students do it all.
4. Remedial
Classes- Yes, not always are our magnet electives fun. Many
students are 'pre-selected' for certain remediation in the areas
of Math, Reading, and Writing. In these classes, they receive
more one-on-one attention due to smaller class size. Students
often complete activities they usually would not in the classroom.
So yes, these classes may not be the first choice of our parents
and students, they definately help 'catch' them up to their peers.
As always at Wendell GT, academics come first!
5. Enrichment
Classes- Often times, students may take classes on their
interests. These include classes in Social Studies, Language
Arts, Math, and more that may interest a student. Look for more
